While I was exploring new theme templates to use in Wordpress, I came across this blog post by “Zen master” and mother Tsh Oxenreider (pronounced “Tish”, and yes, “Tsh” is what’s on her birth certificate) at SimpleMom.net. Let’s dissect this post to see how she uses a Crocs give-away contest to drive traffic to two websites:
Content and Style
Tsh knows how to reach her audience – moms who want to simplify their life to have time for what’s important to them. She uses a friendly and personal voice, and her posts are content-rich and informative.
Blog Contest
Crocs and Tsh have teamed up to offer this contest on Tsh’s blog (you’ll note Tsh has over 10,000 subscribers to SimpleMom. Not sure what it cost each other (it may be a reciprocal agreement), but you’ll bet they’ll get their money’s worth from this contest.
Here are the contest details:
Crocs is giving 10 Simple Mom readers – that’s T-E-N – any pair of Crocs worth up to $50. You can choose any kind you like. Even for your kids. And even better – Crocs is giving you five chances to win. Here’s how.
1. Join Crocs’ Facebook Group and on their Wall, write “Simplemom.net sent me here to tell you that I love Crocs!”
2. Join Crocs’ Flickr group, and then leave any comment on the post thread titled “SimpleMom.net.”
3. Tweet the phrase “SimpleMom.net made me love the new spring line of Crocs #simplemomcrocs” (excluding the quotation marks).
4. Join Crocs’ newsletter, and comment on this post that you joined.
5. Write a post on your own blog about this giveaway, and make sure you link to this post so that I can track it.
We will pick two winners from each form of entry, so the more ways you enter, the more chances you have to win! Thank you, Crocs, for helping Simple Mom celebrate its milestone.
Here are the social media tools used in this contest. These are all currently leaders in their field (Facebook for Social Networking, Flickr for Photos, and Twitter for Micro Blogging.)
[Note: Rather than using the most popular social sites, you might consider using second-string players. Why? You could become a big fish in a small pond by increasing your popularity on the smaller networks.]
- Facebook and Flickr Groups – Crocs gets members to join their groups at these social media sites, and Tsh gets a linkback to her blog, increasing her search engine ranking.
- Twitter – Crocs and Simplemom both get Tweeted – for Tsh and Crocs, they’ll be following these words. The more frequently they’re tweeted, the greater the exposure for the both of them.
- Crocs Newsletter – Again, Crocs gets subscribers and SimpleMom gets commenters.
- Posting on Other Blogs – Hey, that’s what I’m doing! Tsh gets a mention, and I get a chance for a free pair of Crocs!! Yippee!!
- What blog could you team up with to offer a “give-away” contest using your products or services?
- What other social media sites and tools could you include in your contest?
- What products could you use in a “give-away” contest on your own blog?
- Rather than using Facebook or Twitter, what other lesser-known social media sites could you use?
I love Crocs!! Cross your fingers and hope I win!
