I can’t believe I’m excited about cat litter, but I am! I’ve been using Fresh Step scoopable clumping litter for my two indoor kitties for about a year now, and I’m hooked! The stuff is not the cheapest dirt on the block, but it is so effective and smells great for days! Because it lasts longer, it therefore works out to be less expensive and is my litter of choice.
I’m a firm believer in letting people know how I feel (as I like people to do the same for me), so I went to their website to see if I could sing their praises.
Here’s what I found:
1. Paw Points™.
I’ve been keeping the coupons I’ve found inside my litter container for months now. I see there’s a code on the back that lets me sign up for Paw Points™ – kinda’ like frequent flier miles for cat litter users. I signed up, and I actually got excited about some of the give-aways they’re offering for us cat lovers (I’ve got my eye on the “Incredible Scoop and Holder – only 350 points and I’m about half-way there already!)”. Will I enter my Paw Points™ coupons regularly? You betcha!
2. “Meow for the Camera” contest
Upload your favorite photo of your precious kitty and you’ve got a shot at the grand prize of one year of free cat litter. Now, that might not excite you, but it sure excites me! Now, I’m not thrilled about transferring my photo copyrights over to Fresh Step, but, hey? I can always take more of these pictures. And, because I can only submit one image a day, I am compelled to return to the website every day to post more pictures until the contest ends on May 10th. I entered my cat Bastet (not the picture I sent them, but close enough). What do you think? A winner?
My Cat Bastet
Here’s what I didn’t find:
1. A blog
I would love to see articles on cat stuff on this site. Many cat lovers are as fanatic as I am, and if I was coming back to the site regularly (hmmm, I want that SCOOP!!), I’d stay a bit longer to have a look at the blog.
2. A user forum
I’d like to see the challenges other users are having with their cats and how they’re overcoming them, including keeping litter from tracking all over the house. Yes, there’s a risk of transparency here, but I think the opportunities for cat owners to connect with the company far outweigh any disadvantages.
3. An obvious support link
I had to scour the site to find how to contact the Fresh Step people. It’s actually a teenie-weenie tiny little link at the bottom of the page. Why do they obscure this? Be bold, Fresh Step! Make it easy for us cat people to connect with you, eh?!
Something to Think About
- Do you think nobody will get excited about your “boring” or “unattractive” product? Think again!
- What contests can you create to keep your visitors returning to your website on a regular basis?
- How can you make it easier for your website visitors to connect to you?
