Marketing Small Businesses With Twitter

by Carol on July 23, 2009

Small businesses outnumber big ones on Twitter, and in many ways, Twitter is even more useful to them than to corporations, Claire Cain Miller reports in today’s NYTimes.com:

  • It’s easier to set up than a web page
  • A busy business owner can manage it themselves from their cell phone
  • It’s free
  • It’s intimate

Personally, I think Twitter is best suited at present for small businesses who are either in an urban setting, or who have (or could have) a national audience.

However, we can change this.

As a member of the Lake County Chamber of Commerce, I think we should start a campaign in our county for ANYONE Tweeting about Lake County  – a business, tourist, citizen, whatever – to adopt the tag #lakecoca for “Lake County, California”. That way, we can all follow each other and stay abreast of what’s happening in our county!

Join in my campaign – I’ve already started it. And, follow me on Twitter – click on the Twitter icon in my Subscribe box in the right hand column of this page.
