WordPress: the best blogging platform for SEO

by Carol Cole-Lewis on August 25, 2009

For those of you hosting your own blog, Matt Cutts from Google agrees with me: Wordpress is the way to go for securing good search engine ranking.

There are some pretty basic things you can do to help search engines like Google find your post and rank it higher on the list of searches for your keywords (i.e., search engine optimization):

  • Use categories with keywords
  • Use keywords in your blog post title
  • Show related posts at the end of your blog post.
  • If your blog post URL is different than your blog post title, stuff in a few more keywords there
  • Always keep your Wordpress up to date with the latest release for security reasons
  • Use a theme with good CSS handling. Matt uses Thesis (this is one I use most frequently with my clients, too.)

Read the rest of the presentation Matt gave at WordCamp in San Francisco in May on Marko Saric’s blog:

My big problem with Wordpress – Its not user friendly for setting up a blog. From reading and researching on the web – the peopel that are commenting it is easy to set-up and use or the Tech types. Wordpress is way too complicated Blogger was easy to understand, the templates looked teh way a blog should look without all
the sidebar menus and options.

Also – give me a break how can wordpress compare in teh SEO department with Blogger which is with google.

you’re selling a bill of goods I’m not buying. If your an SEo expert I’m very supspicious of you!!
