Will Facebook’s new tagging feature kill Twitter?

by Carol on September 10, 2009

One of the most powerful features of Twitter is the ability for a user to reference other users via an @mention – when you add an “@” in front of a users name and add it in your post, the person referenced can easily track all @mentions, especially when using a Twitter tool such as Tweetdeck.

Facebook has just announced a similar feature for their status updates, which Facebook calls “tagging”. Tagging allows you not only to reference friends, but groups, pages and events.

This makes it easier for businesses with groups, pages and events to track who’s talking about them.
