Fun can change things for the better – at least that’s the premise behind this video ad campaign. It’s straight in at number two in AdAge’s “Top Ten Viral Videos” and It’s a Volkswagen ad – only the second car company to make AdAge’s Top Ten. You won’t see an automobile anywhere in the clip, and the VW logo appears only briefly at the end.
A good marketing ploy? Well, I was moved to click the URL in the trailer: thefuntheory.com. If you’ve got a few minutes, do what I did – you’ll find it uplifting and inspiring! Will it sell more Volkswagens? Perhaps. What it does do, though, is speak to a brand image that VW’s are fun and socially conscious.
