Twitter Users Be Warned: Don’t Send Duplicate Tweets!

by Carol on October 14, 2009

Social Media Today reports an October 12th communication stating Twitter’s Terms of Service are violated when a user sends the same tweet out multiple times. It’s OK to re-tweet (RT) a message, but you can’t send the same message again and again. Here’s how Twitter reported this (according to Social Media Today):

Recurring Tweets are a violation no matter how they are done, including whether or not someone pays you to have a special privilege. We don’t want to see any duplicate tweets whatsoever- They pollute Twitter, and tools shouldn’t be given to enable people to break the rules. Spinnable text seems to just be a way to bypass the rules against duplicate updates and essentially provides the same problems.

So, if you’re thinking about announcing your sales promotion 5 times on Twitter using the exact same tweet each time – don’t. You’ve been warned!
