Quick Marketing Tip: Make Your File Names Meaningful

by Carol on January 1, 2010

Did you ever download a .pdf file from a website that had an almost meaningless filename? For instance, I just downloaded a signup form for a conference I want to attend. The document is titled “register.pdf”. In a few days, I’ll be asking myself when I look at that file “Register for what?”

When you create a file to send to others, make the file name meaningful to them – not meaningful to you. This goes for invoices, job resumes, online brochures, christmas letters to your family and friends, and whatever else you’re not keeping just for your own benefit.

It not only makes good marketing sense (because people will be able to find you more quickly and easily), it’s just plain downright polite and good manners.
